Erin Wirth
Licensed Master Social Worker Erin earned her Master’s degree in Social Work at Adelphi University and has spent the past ten years offering counseling services to those adults, teens and children struggling with developmental disabilities, trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship stressors, life transitions, eating disorders and addiction. It is Erin's belief that the therapeutic relationship can only truly flourish when rooted in unconditional positive regard and acceptance of a client's current struggles. She believes that the therapeutic relationship is a safe way for clients to relearn the concept of vulnerability as a strength, not a weakness, and that true intimacy, acceptance and connection can only come from a place where we allow ourselves to be seen as fully and imperfectly human. Erin believes that we are meant to experience the full spectrum of human emotions (not just the shiny, happy ones!) and that it is when we allow ourselves to accept and hold space for these so-called "negative" emotions, it takes away their power. We can choose to view pain as a source of suffering or as a transformative experience. Utilizing the various therapeutic modalities of Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral therapy and Person-Centered therapy in conjunction with mindfulness-based practices such as meditation, yoga, radical self-acceptance, mindful breathing and gratitude, Erin believes that we're able to move past those emotions that keep us "stuck." |
